A Qualitative Study on the parent suicide traumatic experience of youth

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to better understand traumatic experience of young people who have experienced parental suicide. Following Giorgi¡¯s qualitative research methodology, data collected from in-depth interview with five individuals were analyzed. There were 10 components with 29 corresponding subcomponents identified. The ten components are: 1) repression and denial for a big shock, 2) anxiety and worrisome of other family members living, 3) increased suicidal ideation, 4) guilty feeling, 5) conflicts with and isolation from relatives, 6) difficulties in interpersonal relationship, 7) anger toward the parent who committed suicide, 8) life difficulties, 9) emotional instability, and 10) preoccupied with mobile and electronic games. It is obvious that youth with this experience struggle with emotional, environmental, cognitive and behavioral challenges. Intensive intervention is recommended.
